A new game development product SUITSME came on the scene

The game was developed by the startup Suits, which was launched in 2021. SUITSME is a simulator that allows you to create stylish images for a virtual model using clothes from the collections of more than 100 real brands, including Ukrainian Vovk and Kachorovska.

The SUITSME test launch took place on March 10, 2021. Initially, the game was available for download in three countries - Ukraine, Canada, and the Netherlands. It`s now available for free from the App Store and Google Play worldwide. A few days after the global release, the product was included in Apple's list of recommendations in 44 countries.

Jiji's online marketplace and Cars45 car sales platform announced a merger

The largest African online marketplace Jiji was founded in Genesis and now operates as a stand-alone company. This year the marketplace acquired Cars45, a local c-commerce platform for vehicle transactions. Jiji hasn’t just scaled; it’s changed its monetization model. Now the company earns commissions on transactions, too. By taking the first step towards a transactional business model, Jiji accelerated growth and laid a strong foundation for the company's future.

Pinterest bought the startup VOCHI - this is the first exit of our investment fund

This year the investment fund Flyer One Ventures, which was also founded with Genesis, made its first exit. Earlier, Flyer One Ventures had invested in the startup Vochi, which allows you to create and edit videos using advanced technology. By May 2020, Vochi had raised $1.5 million USD including investments by Flyer One Ventures. Last year, it was acquired by the American company Pinterest. Nowadays more than 500,000 people use Vochi every month.

Headway became a leader in its market by the number of downloads

In 2021 the EdTech startup became one of the fastest growing businesses in the Genesis ecosystem. Now it’s an independent company that develops an application with short summaries of non-fiction books about business, leadership, psychology, and motivation. Summaries are available in both text and audio formats.

A year and a half after the launch, Headway overtook its main competitor, the German startup Blinkist. Last year Headway became the leader in the number of downloads in its niche and remained number one throughout 2021. In two years, the application was downloaded by more than 7 million users from 140 countries.

Launch of an international startup academy in partnership with Facebook

In September, entrepreneurs from Central and Eastern Europe had the opportunity to join the two-month online course Genesis StartUp Academy together with Facebook (now Meta). The program covers the various stages of launching and scaling a technology startup. Lectures were given by experts from Genesis, Meta, Horizon Capital, and Flyer One Ventures.

35 participants from seven countries participated in the academy. At the end of the course, 20 participants received Meta Blueprint certification (formerly Facebook Blueprint).

A product conference was organized for Genesis employees

There are 15 businesses within the Genesis ecosystem. Professionals who develop different products face similar problems but don’t always communicate with each other. The company is now developing a number of educational activities in order to facilitate the exchange of experiences and introduce people to one another.

The largest of such activities was a large product conference held for the first time last year. The CEO and other top specialists of the holding's various businesses gave lectures to the company's employees. In between the lectures were networking sessions so teams could share insights and count on each other's help in the future.

Genesis educational programs were launched in leading Ukrainian universities

Joint programs with top universities in Ukraine are another achievement of 2021. In particular, Genesis launched courses on mobile iOS development and software testing at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Students of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy also received a special course on high-load systems using the Goland programming language as an example; meanwhile Genesis specialists taught business analytics at the Kyiv School of Economics. The School of Entrepreneurship was launched at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. Genesis is working on several more educational projects expected to launch in the first half of 2022.

Creation of the all-Ukrainian course in product IT for students of Ukrainian universities

A new course is the first stage of a large-scale educational initiative developed by the Product IT Foundation for Education, a non-governmental organization co-founded by Genesis. Among the partners are Horizon Capital and Kyiv School of Economics. The educational course was launched with the support of theUkrainian Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

The program teaches how to create and launch digital products and is designed for second- and third-year students. The educational program on IT entrepreneurship will be implemented in 2022.
